In a While by Stephen Foy-Philp

My name is Stephen Foy-Philp and I am currently the Artist in residence at Ashford School. My work, which tends to cross the boundary between painting and installation, revolves around a central crocodile character who encounters different situations and undergoes various transformations. I am interested in playing with space when I put on a show and often hang paintings in unconventional ways using found objects and other made elements to pull the pictures out of the picture plane. For instance, one of the pictures is usually installed with the crocodile's favourite mug sat in front of it, still with the dregs of coffee inside. There is a picture of Crocodile Dundee on the mug.

While I work on a painting I find myself entertaining questions of style and paint application with a discovering which leaves me in the dark as to how the finished piece will look. This way of…
